To add sound to a PowerPoint Presentation, you just go to the top Menu, click Insert, click Movies and Sounds, then click the source of the sound you want (ie whether it be from a file or from a gallery, etc). There will also be options to playing this sound.

First of all, if it is a sound clip, it should be a .wav file . Usually Powerpoint accepts that extension.

You can addit from within the custom Animation section itself or at the Slide Transition.
There is an option, if you look carefully, to browse ... for sound. Then you should browse for the file where ver you have it on your hard disk.

Some sounds are available for free on the internet... via google.

Or if you are playing the sound from a CD. Use the Insert --> Movies and Sounds --> and choose the exact track.
Then when you play the pppt , the CD should be in the CD drive.

the above answer is correct, however you can sometimes run into problems when you attempt to open your presentation on a computer other than your own. the sound may not neccessarily play.
