In any way buy it with 2 GB RAM - cose new Vista need it and old Mac OS X can use it :)

In your question is answer - you need MAC OS for video - its better.

But if you are and gamer also buy Windows VIsta capable laptop = 2 GB RAM and at least 128 Mb video memory.

Windows XP. Apple is technically the "better" technology but it is very expensive and proprietary, which means when something breaks you can only fix it with Apple brand components, and chances are you'll end up replacing the whole thing. Although you can certainly do everything you mentioned with it, Apple is better for heavy graphics, video, and multi-media usage. Windows is better for everything else.

People speak very highly of Mac's programs for photo and video management, in the iLife suite, which includes iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie.

There aren't any decent programs that come with Windows built in that have the same functionality.

For what you're considering, holding price equal, I'd go with a Mac.

(I'm a Windows and Linux user personally).

if you've been using windows all your life, just use windows. It will safe you a lot of headaches trying to adjust to the differences between the two.
