I want a nintendo Wii and i also want a region free DVD player i was hoping the Wii could perform this function and save me having to buy two machines but i cannot find any information about the Wii's DVD specs anywhere?

On I don't think so. most hand consoles are locked to the region they are sold in. to play another region DVD rip it to your hard disk using DVD decryptor then it will be region free and playable in all consoles and players. search for DvdDecryptor on google.

Only if it includes Region 1. Region free DVD players will play any DVD though.

It doen't play DVDs, Nintendo are realeasing a virson of the Wii with DVD player in Japan in the furture but nothing set as yet.

The Wii is not a DVD player at all. Just a gaming system.
