I've always wondered this, ever since I hooked up with a few different black Chicks. They all seemed to have unique or different names and usually they said they had a meaning in African, they couldn't really tell me though. So is it part of the black culture to give their kids unique African names or just made up weird sounding names?

I know several Afrikkans, and none of them have ever heard of Shaqueeta, Latronda, Shaneinei, Laqueeta, Jamocha, or any of the absurdly ridiculous made up names they come up with in the USA. Go to England and ask the blacks there what their names are? They have names like Charles and Mary and Jack and Bill.

I get what you're talking about with the weird sounding names thing - but please understand that not all black parents do this when naming their children.

Personally, I think it's kind of weird and alot of the names sound rather stupid. I read somewhere that ethic-sounding names on resumes put people at a distinct disadvantage in the hiring process.

My mother named me a horrible, weird-sounding name. When I was five years old, I demanded that everyone refer to me by the new name I chose for myself. When I was 18, I had my birth name legally changed.

Sometimes you hear a name and you think it's just made up. But I love unique names, and most black women I've met with unusual names sounded so pretty.

a TRUE African name IS unique and beautiful, but the American Blacks have these wild made up names.
They call themselves Africans- yes they are descendants of Africa, but even a "true" African would never act, talk, or use names like the Black Americans here.

Yes and Yes. We give our children traditional African names like Kofi and Nakimba, or African "sounding" names and then we make them up or choose names from words that sound nice like Chafon and Lashonda and Shenice and LaTaSaNaya. And then some give them traditional Christian names like John and James, others biblical names like Jehrico or Shiloh, and then some have Muslim or Arabic names.

Hope that helps.

My sister has a Eastern European man's name and I have an Celtic man's name.

I've heard some blacks say that they like giving their kids unique names, so I guess that explains why so many of them have unusual names.

What kind of black chicks would hook up with you? Maybe you should ask them. If you're hesitant, or they don't know the answer, then it is a reflection on the type of black chick you're attracting; ultimately, this reflects on who you are. If the only asian chicks I've been dating are ones that can't even tell me the meaning of their names . . .
In short, your question is errant as it presumes one of the options is correct.
