Why Are Some Types Of Music Looked Down Upon?

My girlfriend started listening to Trance and Electronica recently. Her friends have been calling her crazy and telling her to STOP listening to the type of music. She lives in an urban neighborhood, and most of her friends are hispanic. I just think it's stupid that people can't respect what other people listen to these days. If there were no diversity in the world, it would be a boring place.

Because most people are ignorant and only accept people who listen to American Top 40 like they do.

You state a very good point and in going along with respect should the person listening to the music not respect others who find the music annoying or disturbing? I can not stand most of the music my teenage sons listen too but we have a deal they can listen to it as long as I don't have too hear it. That means they use their headphones or play it when I'm not a round likewise I dont make them listen or hear my Julio Englasies! Respect goes both ways

I suppose that people always need to look down on something in order to feel like they are superior. I mean its getting to the point where someone might as well just come up to you and say your favorite band sucks without knowing the band or the type of music played. I mean its not just music...its with everything...Social Class, Race, How far you have gotten on WoW (not that i play that...pssht), etc. It is very sad that people have to be so narrowminded. But hey thats the world just try not to get infected and keep an open mind.

Rap has been looked down upon since it was invented.
Punk Rock probably comes in second to that.

Because it's what the artist talk about in their music. Sometimes people feel certain music is not benefecial and some is beneficial.

Rap is a disgrace to all music,and slop rock like Nirvana.
