What is the best format to keep movies, either from dvd or any file, for viewing on the computer later?

A format that takes up the least hard drive space while retaining quality. I just want to keep a few movies on my laptop to view whenever I travel and get bored in the car or plane. I use windows media player classic as the default player. Thanks for any advices

Divx fomat is what you need

I would use AVI and DIVX. They seem to have the best quality while taking up the least amount of space.
