My friend has been raving about a website called prosper.com
He's set up as a lender, and is pretty happy with the site. He has even been trying to get me to "invest" as a lender. I haven't tried to get a loan through the website, but I have looked at it and read reviews. It seems to be run professionally, and is easy to use.

A borrower applies for a loan through the site and lenders can "bid" to fund the loan. The site ranks your credit (not a numerical score, but a category) and suggests an appropriate interest rate. Each lender only bids $50 and has to compete with other lenders on interest rate. Several "peers" will finance any given loan, but your monthly payment will be made to the website and they will pay the lenders.

It's probably worth checking out.
