You can represent yourself but ignorance of the law or how to proceed in the court process is not an excuse the courts will accept and you may have to refile and amend paperwork at great expense to yourself.

You can file a bankruptcy without an attorney, but with the new bankruptcy laws, you may want to contact a bankruptcy attorney. Most attorneys will offer a free consultation and they will also let you know if you would have any problems filing a bankruptcy
Best of luck to you.

The reform laws that went into effect last year make it very difficult to file for bankruptcy without an attorney. However, it is not impossible. Nonetheless, you should at least consult with a local attorney to see what the cost of your case would be.

I don't think you can because a lawyer would know what all you need to have and what needs to be done and how to go about it. When my husband filed a few years ago, his lawyer only charged 700$. It is a nice chunk of money but considering that he got out of the horrible debt he had, it was worth paying. You can call around your town and most attorneys offer the first consultation call free, just ask if you can do this without an attorney and if not, how much would one generally cost. Good Luck

You never need your own attorney. You can always represent yourself. however, if you do not appear competant, the judge might compel you to find one.
There is an old addage that is quite true: only a fool is his own attorney.
