OK, here's what I remember:

"Down at the bottom of the garden,
Amongst the birds and the bees,
There live a lot of little people,
They call the Poddington Peas"....

Is this right and how does the song finish?! Its driving me bonkers!

Yep, that's right, the next verse goes through some of the characters in the programme, I used to sing along with it every time it came on!!!

"...There's Creep-pea, Black Eye Pea and Dump-pea.
Keep it a secret now please.
Theres Zip-pea, Hap-pea and there's Sweet-pea.
And all the Poddington Peas!

The Poddington Peas!"

Down at the bottom of the garden,
Among the birds and the bees,
A little lot of little people,
They call the Poddington Peas.

There's Creepy, Black Eye Pea and Dumpy.
Keep it a secret now please.
There's Zippy, Happy and there's Sweepy.
And all the Poddington Peas!

Personally, I could not stand either/or. I am a 60's cartoon kid, and that was when Hanna Barbara was at their best. Space Ghost, The Herculoids, Mighty Mightor, and Johnny Quest were awesome, cool, and action packed! The background music for their action fight scenes was also outstanding! But, Hanna Barbara got letters from parents about cartoon violence, and had to tone down the genre. It seemed that, starting in 1969, the toons just started going downhill. They took on more of a campy theme. I didn't mind some comedy relief (I did like Dastardly and Muttley in their flying machines) but this became the norm, and it kept getting more innocent (with the exception of the Challenge of the Superfriends series ABC ran from 1978-80). Come the early 80's it was just too Romper Roomish for me. The Smurfs with the "La, la, la, la, de da, la, de, da, de, da" and Smurfette's innocence in a village of guys (makes you wonder about their lifestyle before she arrived doesn't it? Not to mention how did they ever come into being if there wasn't any female smurfs before her) was just too sickeningly sweet for me! I'll take good ol' Space Ghost blasting the living hell out of Zorak any day of the week!

I used to watch both of these with my son when he was little, and i don't know about him, but i loved them. I think , like you, the Poddington Peas were my favourite. I also bought the books and read them time and time again to him, but i'm sure it was for my benefit and not his! Bring them back on telly, that's what i say.

Television is produced to the cheapest common denominator - i.e., the common IQ of the general public, whereas a e book is written to the best common denominator
