I am currently 10 weeks pregnant and Friday I was admitted into the ER for a 4 night stay because they found out I have full blown diabetes. They say it has NOTHING to do with pregnancy. I heard all kinds of stories that my baby may now have organ defects and skeletal defects. I'm going to a high-risk doctor on Monday who'll tell me more, but HAS THIS HAPPENED TO ANY WOMAN OUT THERE AND THEIR BABY TURNED OUT TO BE FINE?? I'm scared!!!

ABSOLUTELY!!! They make it sound worse than it usually is. I was given all the stories too. It is important to keep your diabetes under control because it can cause problems. But I got pregnant and was diagnosed with diabetes---had a perfectly normal, healthy, beautiful baby boy. 3 years later, I had a high risk pregnancy because of the diabetes, and had non stress tests 3 times a week from 3 months on, ultrasounds about every 2 weeks but had a perfectly healthy, normal baby boy again. They are 16 and 13 now. Good luck, and if you want to ever talk by email, feel free. Don't stress if possible--and enjoy the pregnancy. Congratulations.

my neices diabetes was missed while she was pregnant due to an idiot doc!she luckily had a healthy baby but there were complications as well.first the baby was 10 pounds 5 oz and had problems breathing.my neice now has her diabetes in check but we now know that her baby has a higher chance of having diabetes.as long as you listen to you doc and nutritionist then you should be fine!you just have to stick to your diet to make sure you and your baby are healthy!good luck!

first thing, relax... just take your medications religiously and there is a much bigger chance that your baby will survive.. usually what happened is that because of the high level of sugar in your body, the baby will have high insulin in his body and that causes the defect. but of course, because there are now medications which can control blood sugar, most mothers with gestational diabetes had normal babies. believe me, i had seen and took care of babies from neonatal ICU who came from diabetec mothers and eventhough they are large than normal (expect that to happen), but their blood sugar are perfectly fine and they have no defects. in fact i havent seen one who had major defect... for more info, research more about "neonates of diabetec mothers"
