MAPI is a proprietary programming API from Microsoft. It stands for Messaging Application Programming Interface. A MAPI-compliant application will work with Microsoft messaging (primarily e-mail) systems.

MAPI compliant means that the application or software can interface (read interact) with a MESSAGING APPLICATION SOFTWARE.

That is you can make the application feed data to a MESSAGING APPLICATION or you can make the application read data from a MESSAGING APPLICATION PROGRAMMING INTERFACE.
