My wife had to have surgery in Aruba resulting from a fall in a Dutch Bar (The Paddock). Hospital would not take insurance BC/BS and it was all out of pocket. Had to extend my stay an xtra 10 days-all this on CC/over 10 grand. Now I'm told too bad so sad!
No tort law there. This did not happen in an American held property. Any recourse??? DO NOT GET INJURED IN ARUBA-ALL THEY DO IS PICK YOUR POCKETS!
Anyone been in the same situatiion. To compound matters, the surgery was done wrong (the rod in the femur was too short & the screws were too long). I'm told there is no malpratice law in Arub as well. The procedure was done by the head of the hospital. DO NOT GO THERE. FLY OUT EVEN IF IT IS LIFE THREATENING.

Good plug for travel insurance and supplemental health insurance for any travel to "non-Western" countries.
I wouldn't be so sure that there's NO tort law whatsoever there. It might be worth a trip to a local lawyer's office, and them spending an hour or two researching, but because the acts didn't take place on American soil, American law is not going to apply, and you'll generally be at the mercy of the local laws.

Hmmmm....I surprised you couldn't. I'm not really sure. After what happened to that girl from Alabama a few years back and the Aruban government's run around, I don't know why any American would go there.

You'd have to consult a lawyer to check their laws.
