We have dial-up internet (broadband is not available here). The computer is fairly new, and when it is first turned on, it connects to the dial-up internet on the first try. The problem is that once we go offline, it is impossible to get back online, except by restarting the computer. This is getting very annoying! An error message comes up, saying that "The remote computer does not respond".

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this? We have tried various settings but have not been able to straighten it out.

Sanjay, we do try to Log in again. It dials the number (which is in the window for connecting to internet) but keeps getting the error message. If we restart the computer it will dial up and connect ONCE, but then if we disconnect it, it has the problem again and cannot log on.

Try logging Off and then Logging In, instead of restarting. 'The remote computer does not respond' is an error message that indicates a problem at the ISP's computer, not yours.

Make sure you have the most updated driver for your modem. You might also want to contact your ISP to have them troubleshoot.
