On my satellite connection my upload speed is about 50k/sec vs. a download speed of 500k/sec. I measured my dialup speed and I get an upload speed of 300k/sec and a download speed between 30-46k/sec.
If you average the upload and download speeds of each of the two methods, the “broadband” is only about 1 ½ times as fast as dialup, not the 10x faster than dialup advertised.

Satellite connections require an uplink and downlink medium. Their speeds can vary due to weather and other phenomenon.
