It seems incongruous to me that we lavish money on athletes who do little more than throw a ball around and actors who regurgitate what others have told them to say, yet we can't seem to afford to pay people who really make a difference like teachers, policemen, and, particular to my heart, nurses. When these athletes/actors misbehave, sometimes grossly, we essentially condone it by continuing to pay them obscene amounts of money. That, it seems to me, to be a double standard because we generally will not allow that type of behaviour from "regular" people and we certainly scold our children for said same behaviour. When will this insanity stop?

I agree with every point you make here.

As entertainers, they are providing a service and do deserve compensation. However, the amounts these people make are insane.

I think the reason they make this money is basically because team owners, movie industry gurus and sometimes society as a whole simply allow it to happen.

Someday it will change, but that day could be long off. What will have to happen is that those who payout the money will have to get a backbone and take a stand.

If team owners and movie companies would simply refuse to pay these wages, and the public wouldn't support them buy purchasing tickets, these entertainers would have no choice but to accept fair payment.

I think it's okay. I mean it's all about capitalism and all. If we didn't love the movies and such so much, then we wouldn't go to them, and the demand for them would be less and they would therefore be paid less. Also, movies are so high tech these days that seriously they are just going to get better and better and be more and more costly which makes it more and more important that the actors and actresses are good and that means more money. I mean right? Anyhow, I don't know why there is such a demand for sports and music I mean you can only improve those so much.

This is a very funny question...because it is actually us...the public who pay their salary.

This is how it works...
If you love Mel Gibson...and a good part of the world does...you will pay to go and see its latest movie. Then you will go to hire the DVD. And these days many of us will buy the DVD.

Who get the money from all this?
The movie's producers, directors...etc.
So...quite rightly...when they call Mel Gibson to make a new movie...Mel tells them...listen mate...each time I make a movie, you are making 150 million profit...I want my share of this...as the main reason you are making this money...is because of my popularity. So my fee is now 25 million per movie.

When you are selling and promoting something to 6 billion people...money becomes more of a status than an income.
Those people are not asking that money because they are greedy. In fact they give millions to charities.

None of us can compare ourself to those people. They are in a league of their own.
There are only 10 guys in the whole world who are capable to win races in a Formula One. That is why they get paid millions to do it.

Now...chasing a ball...no matter what size ball it is...seem fairly easy...and anybody should be able to do it. But it does not seem to be the case. To be the number one tennis player...you have to beat 6 billion people. Just think about that.

They make so much because their career generate so much. A movie pulls in 100 million dollars...only the producer should get it????

Basketball arenas pull in money hands over fists...only the owners should have it instead of the people who actually make the money flow. I'm no sports fan, but I don't think people go to the games to see the team owners.

Quit supporting them by watching their movies and games. But if you want to pay teacher and policemen more, start a ballot proposal to raise people's taxes to cover the wage increase.

It's called a free market economy. People are paid what the market will support. most people are healthy most of the time, so why do they "need" doctors? However, they want to watch a film or a match every week.

Vote with your wallet. Do not attend sporting events or movies and they won't get paid anything.
