I am not one for medication, so perhaps you will find my cold remedy of help. Squeeze half a lemon into a cup, a full teaspoon of honey and add a little hot/warm water. Make sure there is more lemon than water though. This should help. You could also try Karvol which you get from the chemist or vicks!! Hope you feel better soon. Garlic is also another form of decongestant .. perhaps add some extra garlic to dinner tonight!!

I got a cold the week after I came home from the hospital. I called the dr and he said that it was okay to take Tylenol cold and even the daytime formula was ok for a breast feeding mom. Also I started taking a vitamin c tablet on top of my prenatal vitamin and it helped kick the cold pretty quick. Also may want to pick a steam vaporizer, you can never get one of those too early.

For some reason people never seem to consider Saline Nasal Spray.
It works better than any cold medicine out there for colds and stuffy noses, it flushes everything out of your nasal passages so it never has a chance to become infected and move into the sinuses and the lungs and throat.
Just get some, squirt it in your nostrils until it runs down your throat a little, and voila! I promise in two days it'll be pretty much gone.
Its amazing stuff.

I was in the same boat as you last night.
There are only two decongestants safe while breastfeeding:
pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine
http://www.kellymom.com/health/meds/cold-remedy.html#decongestants
However pseudoephedrine may decrease milk supply, so you need to take that into consideration.
I ended up taking:
Neo Citran Extra Strength cold and sinus because it is the only thing I could find that had phenylephrine and nothing else (except tylenol)
http://www.neocitran.ca/products/es_sinus.htm
All the other neocitrans contain an antihistamine. *sigh*
Good luck!

This always works for me. Slice a lemon into a mug. Pour over boiled water and add a spoonful of pure honey. I have never used any over the counter remedies.
