What draws you to it? The variety, the style, the fact that 50% of it is aimed at girls? What is your biggest draw? And how many of you appreciate not the style/content but the techniques utilized such as speed lines, expressions of inner turmoil, etc? These are now being seen in many comics that otherwise do not show any sign of their manga influence. How do you feel about it?

In Scott McClouds book he likes to point out that even though many western comics don't draw in manga style, many of the techniques and things that draw fans to manga are found in comics, be it online or graphic novels. The pacing, composition, panel styles, transition, of manga can be seen in western comics.

He hopes that one day manga will be seen for what it is, another word for comics. :)

What draws you to it: Well, to the ones I read, it is either Romance (The style. Like, I only read the ones where it has a twist to it. Like DramaCon, The Flower of the Deep Sleep, etc.) And I like the action. Nothing is original, from what I read. I love the excitment, the suspense, the drama, etc. I love Naruto Manga, Kanpai!, etc. All of them are so exciting. Keeps me on the edge of my seat.
The variety, the style, the fact that 50% of it is aimed at girls: Personally, I like that, because I am a girl. =P I first thought manga was for boys. But, I found alot of the Action, Adventure, etc. manga were directed to girls too, and the ones where they only had one girl character were also good and fun for girls. ;D
What is your biggest draw: I don't really understand by what you mean here, =P, but here is my answer. (I think you are asking this..) I don't read manga that is Homosexual, no Moe, or whatever you call it. =P Except for Ouran High School Host Club. Thats different. xD
And how many of you appreciate not the style/content but the techniques utilized such as speed lines, expressions of inner turmoil, etc: I love it! It makes it more exciting, amazing, etc.
These are now being seen in many comics that otherwise do not show any sign of their manga influence. How do you feel about it: I totally don't understand what you are saying but...I'll try. xD I like the Manga term, not comics. Unless your like my dad. He doesn't understand the term manga. O.o; But, in Comics, they wouldn't show the Manga emotions. Like, the odd faces, actions, etc. 8D So, I would like it to stay Manga, not Comic. =D

hm, you bring up a good philisophical point there.
I do like manga and I am a huge fan of it. I like how the drawings seem to move and flow almost like tv, but their voices and their real actions are more imagined in your head (that's how I read my manga, btw). I also like how the manga could give you a clear grasp of characters and what they look like, not having to think up the person entirely like from an actual reading book, excluding picture books. I do appreciate the style and content of the story, but the story and art are more up to the artist and creator (sometimes the same person) and in a way also attracts readers. I got hooked on Ultra Maniac, Othello, Moon Boy, Destiny's Hand, and Blood Alone because the art was different from other art works. Expressions in face also show how the character feels, and the visual part of the book also helps with mystery manga series (Case Closed, Legal Drug, ect. ect). I'm sorry if I didn't really answer this question as you wanted. I am a 13 year old girl who has had a love of manga and anime for 6 years. (it first started with pokemon and Cowboy Bebop)

The drawing style. The eccentricities. The expressions. The coolness of characters. Loads of things :(
