As part of the New York megalopolis, northern New Jersey has been the butt of jokes for ages. I would not live there. But South Jersey is like another state. THAT is what brings it the name, "The Garden State". I could live there if I had to.

there are some beautiful places on the jersey shore. the further south you go, it becomes less crowded and there are state parks. the ocean is pretty clean, and very nice for swimming. unfortunately, the towns in new jersey are not very interesting, but it is close to new york, philly and d.c.. for nice inland areas there is princeton.
