I do not understand this issue at all. It seems that a bunch of Christmas trees were taken down due to someone wanting to display a menorah. The trees had no specific decorations on them that had any religious relation.
In regards to that a menorah has a religious meaning. I can understand if there were crosses placed around the airport why someone might be offended, but that is not the case.
I would like to hear some opinions on this subject please.
"There will be no more Christmas trees at Sea-Tac Airport this season after the Port of Seattle received a complaint about them.
For more than 25 years, the airport has celebrated the holidays with Christmas trees over its entrances. But now the trees that decorated the entrances to Sea-Tac can only be found down back hallways out of the public's view, after the Port of Seattle ordered all 15 trees removed.

I am wondering why there is an issue with taking down a tree that has nothing to do with Christian beliefs. If there were crosses I could understand.
The menorah has a specific signifigance to the Jewish religion while the tree has none to Christianity

I think the Port of Seattle did the right thing.
It wasn't just about displaying the Menorah, the real issue was that they were given a deadline to put up a Menorah or they would be sued.
So they took down the trees.
I believe that was the right thing to do. Why should the Port Authority give in to what in my opinion amounts to blackmail? (Do this or else.) In this case the "do this" was Put up an 8' Menorah and the "or else" was or I will sue you.
Frivilous lawsuits and the threat of such lawsuits are a real problem in this country and they need to be addressed. I hope this issue helps bring more attention to them and maybe lead to a solution.

Why it makes sense for Christians to support Menorah displays:
1. The holidays of Hanukkah is mentioned in the Christian Bible (John chapter 10); Christmas is not.
2. If not the victory of the Maccabees over the Assyrian Greeks, Judaism would have been wiped out, there would have been no Jesus 150 years later, and thus no Christianity.
Another consideration: The Prophet Jeremiah was not fond of Christmas trees (chapter 10).

I won't flame the airport administration because I understand them. They've got plenty of work to do already due to holiday season - they shouldn't be hogged down by what should have been a little *extra* like decorating the area. Today it's a menorah, then a buddist comes up and wants something else put up, then some wicca dude and so on. Everyone with *free speach* and a *right to demand*.
Horray, the trees are up again - but people should learn to be a bit more tolerant and just let some things be. I mean, it's christmass, and everyone knows Christmass trees are standard decor en the US - so what's the damn big deal? Let them be and celebrate your own style christmass at home with your family and friends.

Why didn't they just put up a menorah or whatever holiday thing people wanted? It's okay if you make an attempt to recognize all religions. They should have asked people of all religions to give ideas about decorations.
And I completely agree that trees are not specifically religious. They should have simply explained that.

1) There was no complaint about the Tree.
2) The Rabbi asked to put a menorah display, which he offered to provide and pay for
3) There was no threat to sue
4) The Rabbie did not request, let alone demand, that the the Trees be removed, and expressed disappointment that they were.
The airport and the press handle the whole thing terribly, and heads should roll as a result.

If you are going to ask a question, why do you leave out important details?
FYI...the menorah has less "religious" significance then the Xmas tree. Xmas trees are a symbol of christmas which is supposedly a very holy day.

fairly, he actually requested to have a menorah placed next to the Christmas tree. It became the airports selection to get rid of the timber really. at the same time as he realized that the timber were being taken down, he complained and they were placed back. next 365 days the airport as agreed to operate menorahs also. feels like a reliable answer to me.

The trees are back up - they were put up less than 24 hours after they were taken down.

I am a Christian and It makes not difference to me if anyone wants to celebrate their own religion as they wish. God judges me for my own deed not by what others do.
