You need to ask your insurance one question, how much will an ultra sound cost you out of pocket, and if there is a certain number of covered scans that are covered. Your doctor should and probably will have no problems giving you an ultra sound if you really want it. However you need to find out how much it may cost you in the long run. I have a good friend who is going to have to pay 150 to find out the sex of her baby due to the insurance not fully covering that scan.

I had a transvaginal at 8 weeks 5 days because I had miscarried before. Then next time I had one was at 20 weeks. Most insurance companies will only pay for one unless medically necessary. It is so that the doctor can look at the baby to be sure everything is okay not to find out the sex. But we all get so anxious that we want to know ASAP!!!!!! I had such a time trying to name my baby that I waited until my sono so I would only have to worry about boy names! Good luck!

He will probably wait til your 20 weeks but I found out I was having a boy at 18 weeks but I have to have constant monitoring of my health and the baby so I usually end up getting atleast 12 ultrasounds when I'm pregnant.

Most of the time the doctors like to wait until week 20 to do an ultrasound. This is because it is mainly for checking the organs, brain, spinal cord, and other main parts of the body. This is when they find most of the spina bifida cases. You are better off waiting until week 20 so that the doctor can check all of this. I know you are excited to find out the sex of the baby, but waiting is in the best interest here.

They usually do it closer to 20wks and some doc don't do ultrasounds regularly my only one was my 20wks ultrasound but keep in mind that they are more focused on the health of the baby and on the measurements of the baby to see how he is growing and if there are any health issues they can pick up on, plus baby has to be in the correct position to tell the sex. Good luck!

According to my wife's doctor, about 50% of the time, they can sex the baby at 20 weeks and about 50% of the time, they're wrong.
It isn't a stupid question, but I want to give you my two cents:
I wanted to know the sex of our baby really badly. I wanted to paint the nursery, buy toys, etc. My wife wanted it to be a secret. We would have been fine with either, but here's how we found out...
We went to Stork Snapshots (they take portraits of your unborn baby) and the gal said, "Well, if you wanted to know the sex of the baby, there's his thingy.". We were both really mad. I found out, but not the way I wanted to and "thingy?" that was really professional.
Knowing the gender of the baby took a lot out of the surprise when he was born. I suggest holding off on that and telling your doctor that you don't want to know yet. When we have our next one, I'm not asking.

It is completely normal for your doctor to wait to do your first ultrasound until you are 20 weeks. Usually you can't see what the baby is until them. But you will have another one shortly after that to check the growth and position of the baby. You wil be fine..

They don't like to do more ultrasounds then they have to, because while relatively safe, there are still some concerns. I know its hard to wait to find out, I didn't get to find out until about a month before my due date, but be patient and trust your doctor. You'll find out soon enough.

You usually only get one scan unless there's a problem. I would wait until he says. That way you'll have the best opportunity to see things when he's more developed then he would be at 16wks. Be patient and listen to the doctor. Congratulations!!!!!
