depends where the short is, if it is in the wiring harness it can be very difficult and expensive to fix, there is thousands of miles of wire in a electrical system, and a little chafe in just one wire can cause switches and relays to test wrong. This just happened to my jeep in the summer, it kept burning a fuse-able link, i had to start at one end and just keep following wires, eventually i found 2 wires chafed once i removed the whole dash. if you have it fixed i would set a maximum amount of time the mechanic works on it, say 2 or 3 hours that way you have some control on how much it takes to fix it

There are many things that you can do to find out weather or not the shortage can be fixed or not. If you want to find out if it can be fixed you can go down to the auto shop in your town and have them run a couple of test to find out what exactly is going on. Depending on what the problem is with your car you may be better off to get a new car.

Yes.. My wifes needed a new ignision switch and struts. it would cost 1200 dollars on a 97 saturn. we got 3000 in trade.

tammy it depands on what is cauing the electrical problems most times it can be fixed
