I have looked around the internet quite a bit, and have been unable to find the answer to this question.

I am a Penn State alumnus, and until the movie "We Are Marshall" came out, thought that the "We Are.." chant was specific to my alma mater. Who came up with it first?

Well We Are Marshall makes more sense. I don't know who started it, and actually never heard it used by anyone as their chant. Although we know when it started at Marshall so I guess you need to find out when it started at Penn State and you would know who started it.

Yes, the "WE ARE" phrase originated in good old Happy Valley. Marshall apparently got the idea from Penn State. But still, the phrase will forever stay true and lead us through!

"WE ARE PENN STATE!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO STATE!!!"
