If you were them would you give an acceptance to a student who said, I'm only coming there for the money. ?

You have to do some research and see what there is about that school that makes it different from the other 2000 colleges in the USA. And then explain why that difference particularly appeals to you. When my kids were applying to college I made them write a research paper on every school they applied to -- after all, they were asking me to spend $10,000s!

They wrote some great essays! (and got accepted where they wanted to go).

A liberal arts college offers only certain majors - no engineering, agriculture, business or other pursuits like this. LA colleges tend to believe in "learning for learning's sake" and so any essay you write should be about your eagerness to learn about many things, and to learn how to learn throughout your life.

If the "why" essay question is "why do you want to attend ABC University," then focus on the size, location, environment, majors, and some of the things that the school likes to brag about.

If the "why" question is "why should we accept you?" then focus on the things you could bring to the school.

Most LArts colleges offer a small, intimate environment. At my daughter's college, the president knows the name - and something about - of all most all the 700 students on campus and comes up to greet them frerquently. How cool is that?
