Macs are all around better systems, but very little software for them!

Macs truly are better for creative professionals, for a number of reasons. They "just work", leaving more time for creative minds to be creative, rather than constantly repairing or diagnosing hardware or software issues. Mac OS X is a well organized system with various advanced OS features not found in Windows XP or the upcoming Vista. Mac OS X is safe and secure, no matter what PC users tell you. Macs don't have viruses because Macs are UNIX based, not because of it's lower market share. Apple also allows for powerful computing for very large projects by allowing multiple Macs to work together via Xgrid.

I use both, and bought Mac.

Since the majority of the worlds computer end-users are PC, I simple adjust my Mac's display for web-work to display as "if it were a PC" - very simple, so I am seeing my work in the same way most of the customers are.

Any computer is only as good as the programs that run on them, and the capabilty of the processor and memory to run them. Your top rated video/audio programs were originally intuitively developed for Mac and adapted for PC. (this is not the issue it was years ago) Plus, if you have older programs, just about anything ever written for any Mac OS, will continue to run on any now-or-future Mac OS. There's none of this "only ran on 98, only runs on XP", etc.

Still, decide which programs, written by whom, that you will most likely use, and then see which platform makes that use easier. Hands down, it will most like be Mac, especially for video.

BUT, let's go with the most obvious reason: Stability. Even a high end Pentium and XP (or whatever else is coming up next) will never be as stable as any Mac OS because of the virus-issue. You don't have to operate a Mac in constant vigilance against all the insideous crap out there to which PC's are vulnerable.

In the end, your choice will be your personal preference. Check with a few busy professional firms around you and I bet they have both but prefer Mac.

The reason why Macs were better at multimedia production is because the way they manage system memory thru the processor.

Macs used PowerPC which are a RISC type processor, where as Intel and all other x86 type processors are CISC type processor.

Contrast between the two can be found here:

In my first sentence I stated Macs 'were' better, now that Macs have switched to using Intel's processors I don't know if Macs still have an advantage.

You cant do these thing on intel based computers.
