You need to purchase a router. This is a piece of inexpensive hardware that installs between your modem and the computers on the network. One cable goes between the modem and the router. Each computer plugs into the router. Most routers permit at least 4 computers to be on the network Each computer needs a network card. Sometimes call a NIC card. Most newer computers already have one installed. Look for an 802.11 jack on the computer or laptop. It looks like a telephone jack but a little wider.

You may want to consider a wireless router, but you will have to have a wireless card for each computer.

The routers, NIC cards, and wireless adapters come with good directions for installation.

(I assume you already have a modem) You need a broadband router, and each machine needs a network card. It is actually really easy.
