Wieght is a great way for doctors to make sure your baby is growing consistently. Sometimes there is a little too much emphasis put on weight and it makes parents nervous for no reason. Unless your pediatrician seems concerned don't worry about you baby being too big or too small. Big isn't always better and I think we as a society tend to view a big baby as a healthy baby. That's not necessarily the case.
As far as the way the question is asked...people should be a little more understanding of other people's languages. In some languages this is how the question would be asked.

It really depends on how big the baby was when it was born and if it is breastfed or formula fed, as breastfed babies tend to be a little smaller.

Here are some links to sites with growth charts:

Regardless of what your baby's weight is, he or she would be considered healthy as long as their weight and height are in sync. I just mean that you want them both to be around the same percentile. You don't want your child to be in the 90th percentile for weight and only be in the 30th percentile for height, or vice versa, but if the weight is around 90th percentile and the height is also around the 90th percentile that's good.

FYI, my daughter is formula fed and was 7 lbs. 2 oz. when she was born and at her 4 month check-up she weighed 14 lbs. 1 oz. My cousin's son is just a few weeks older than my daughter and he is formula fed and was 8 lbs. 15 oz. when he was born and was 20 lbs. at his 4 month check-up! He is way off the growth chart and in my opinion, she is overfeeding him. It's not always good to have the biggest baby since it can contribute to problems later in life like obesity and diabetes.

Your baby will be determined by the weight they were born with, and how much they eat daily. But the older baby gets, they weight slows up. It normal. But if you take your baby to the pediatrician, that he/she usually see, they have a better chance at knowing if your baby is gaining tha righ amount of weight or not. They may suggest a different type of diet for the baby. G/L

There is no set wieight. it all depends on how big they were when they were born and how much they are eating now. But most babies at around that age are between 11-15 lbs
