Motrin is a brand name for ibuprofen. Medications & Mother's Milk by Thomas Hale lists ibuprofen as a "Lactation Risk Category L1" which means "safest." Ibuprofen is on the AAP's list of "maternal medications usually compatible with breastfeeding." Yes, it's fine to take.

The pharmacist at the drugstore told me motrin is not good to use when breastfeeding and the only safe thing to use is tylenol. But they gave me motrin in the hospital, though that might be a different thing all together. Take tylenol instead. btw I live in Canada and they did give me a tylenol 3 to take in the hospital first but I did not take it because I was not in pain, so they gave me a motrin instead but I did not take that either.

Ibuprofin is class "L1" (safest ) for use during breastfeeding.

Don't worry about the doc, you are actually better off checking online anyway. Most docs just say "NO" when really they mean they do not know. Your pharmacist is a better person to ask. In addition you can call:
Motherisk (416) 813-6780 (now that is a local call for me and unfortuneatly they 1-800 numbers are only for more serious issues like drug abuse, HIV, etc. But they really are the best. Here is their webpage: http://www.motherisk.org/women/index.jsp

Ask doctor or call the emergency room when it's after hours. Your doctor should have an answering service where they can relay messages to your doctor.
I think it should probably be ok. I breastfed mine and remember taking tylenol and ibuprofen.

well I know that they give it to you in the hospital after having a baby -even if your breastfeeding so I would say that it is just fine.
