I was really disgusted about the Farepak news. And the closer it gets to Christmas, I keep wondering if any of those people are getting any money back... Especially since there are so many charities helping, and people digging into their own pockets to help.

It sort of reminds me of New Orleans charities and charities for NYC bombings... Scammers came out of the wood work to get money they were not owed and I am just hoping people are getting SOMETHING back that they lost out and it's not falling into the hands of more DISHONEST folk.
(how do people sleep at night... shameless!)

I feel the same. How how how can those on the lowest rung of income/wealth, who have been saving for Christmas... and who've had the foresight to save in advance for it... to provide for their families..... get ripped off totally.

Its ridiculous and shameful that there is no protection for these people. The Government has to ensure nothing like this can happen again + there needs to be more money restored for the Farepak victims.

The way this played out was really disgusting. It's not just that a company went bust. Farepak KNEW that they were in deep trouble and kept collecting the money from their customers anyway. Halifax-BoS KNEW that Farepak was in deep trouble, declined to actually do anything until November. If they had acted earlier, people would have lost less and had more time to get things sorted for Christmas. If they had acted later, people would have gotten their money this year.

In short both Farepak and the banks could have significantly lessened, perhaps even prevented, this farce. Regulation is definitely needed in this business, but in such a way that prevents the theft, or extracts the recompense from the thieves rather than the government.

Sad news about the farepak thing. What I don't understand is why people don't just save the money in the bank, building society, post office or use the major supermarkets savings schemes? I'm in a credit union and I save all the year round with a savings card at Asda

A lady that I know lost over £2000 in the Farepak collapse. She has now got around £400 worth of vouchers to distribute between her customers!

Some Farepak customers are receiving hampers that were packed before the collapse, also some are receiving vouchers from money donated by companies and individuals, but most will have a miserable Christmas, what Farepak did was horrendous, they gambled their customer money on other ventures which failed, and to me that is fraud! they should be arrested, if there are any Farepak customers on this site, MERRY CHRISTMAS!! i hope you have had some recompense.

i feel sorry for those people, and yet the way they have been treated by farepak is a utter disgrace. it makes me seethe to think those company directors and their families, of whom have lived a life of luxury and who show no remorse for their actions would do this. they should be throughly ashamed of themselves, and for them to have allowed this problem to escalate and to get this far is nothing short of shameful. they literatelly conned those poor people, taking their money and hummiliated them to the extent to which those families whose xmas's are going to be ruined by this farce and of whom will never be able to get their money back. unless that is, something truly unbelievable happens and hence, justice will be done when farepak are exposed as the con artists that they are and of whom are made to pay back every penny they robbed from those families involved. i do hope that they do eventually salvage something good out of this mess, and for the people of farepak to live with their mistakes and to admit they did let people down

Although what has happened too the people concerned is terrible (made worse because it happened so near to Christmas) i don't believe the reaction it received especially in parliamentary discussion. These things happen its unfortunate yes. but that's life sadly not always fare sorry fair.

Hope the people effected have the best Christmas they can and that they receive everything back which is owed to them.
