Why do you have to "put your two cents in".. . but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

It's like the extra nine tenths of a cent you pay at the gas pump... people who give you their two cents worth HOPE you won't notice you got shortchanged a penny.

Because we usually value our own thoughts higher than those of others.
But the price of a thought is pretty low don't you think ... and unaffected by inflation. That does arise thought! ;))))
