my hp laptop will work fine fora while on my home network. my dsl modem/router is a westell versalink. i have not timed it, but the laptop will invariably display that our home network has little or no connectivity, requiring me to click on the wireless icon on the info bar at the bottom and click repair. it will go through it's steps and the connection is briefly reestablished. my dell laptop will stay connected for hours with no problem, and my home pc hard wired to the modem never ever drops the internet.

I had the same problem with my HP computer. The biggest issue was the Windows Firewall, kill it. You can rely on the router firewall (inbound only) or get ZoneAlarm or similar software firewall for both inbound and outbound protection. HP suggested Start/Run/'command' and entering netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt which is supposed to clear the tcp/ip stack. It seemed to help but my real issue was the firewall.

The first thing I do when setting up a wireless network for anyone is to change the default channel in the router which is normally channel 1. Log into your router and go to the wireless portion of setup and look for the channel selection, simply change it to another channel, I like channel 4 or 5. Channel 1 is too close to cordless phone freq's so you could be getting some interference causing your connection to drop off.

If that doesn't work you may want to look at another wireless adapter for the notebook, it could be faulty. HTH

I have an hp laptop also and was having a similar problem but was located furthest from the router, since the notebook has a wireless connection built in.. I purchased the latest and greatest N Linsys router and also the adapter for the notebook and haven't had a problem since.. don't know if it is the hp wireless built ins problem or the distance.. all I know is this fixed my problem.

Hi
You can change the frequency in which you will connect, you can login into the westell modems GUI using the IP address:
192.168.1.1
and then select the frequency other than your cordless phone. If you are behind any wall or any blocking like micro wave devices nearby. You have a good connectivity in wired becuase it is physically connected. You can even try using WEP security for making the connection a stable one.

Something is interfering with the wireless signal, could be a wireless phone signal, your tv, the distance between your router and your laptop, or the strength of other wireless network signals. Go to your wireless network settings and make sure your network is set as highest priority also make sure your wireless network has its encryption setup.. this also leads to a more stable connection.
