It's Compaq Presario M2000, it's really a lower class, but any thoughts or possible alternatives: whether it is worth fixing or buy a new laptop? This is serious query and am poor, any sensible advice is very much appreciated.

What is the status of other lights on your laptop? HDD led blinks? power? If it is working as normal except no display, hook to an external monitor to the port in the back or if it has TV out try to connect it to your TV. Once you do this, get backup of all important data on a removable media.

Otherwise, go to hardware service center, tell them about your problem, they will be able to extract all your data from your laptop by attaching HDD to any other laptop.
Hope this will work for you.

Well, does the laptop still turn on? If so, you could always connect the laptop to an external monitor and use that as the laptop's monitor for now.

If you want to replace the screen (if that really is the problem) I'd contact http://www.screentekinc.com . The screen would cost roughly 300$.

Good luck.

Is the laptop charged? Does it power on at all? If it powers on and seems like it is booting, it might just be the LCD. If so, all your data is fine. Try hooking up a regular monitor to the port on the back of your laptop.

If it still turns on, hook an external monitor to the port in the back. Should be able to get video. This will give you an opportunity to back up your work to removable media. Then have the laptop serviced.

Hi
I think you may try to power drain your laptop, incase if there is any static power that remains in your laptop may cause this issue.

You can also try connecting to a different monitor, after trying for a power drain. If the issue still persist, Please through your comments on my blog. So that i can help you further.
