Yes - agree totally. people dont decide to be stupid, whereas to be ignorant is a decision we make- to learn or not, the majority of the worlds population choose to live in ignorance.WHY ??

Well I disagree with both. Stupidity is not an inability (not unability) to learn it is an unwillingness to accept and act on what is learned. Like repeating the same actions over and over again and expecting different results.

Ignorance is not an unwillingness but more of a lack of knowledge. Ignorance can change when the knowledge is available to them.

Most of the world I think is ignorant but yet they refuse to find the knowledge to better themselves that is either laziness or arrogance.

stupidity is NOT the inability to learn, it is the result of ignorance which is the result of unwillingness. unfortunately this accounts for most of the worlds population that choose not to learn from someone else's mistakes, choice being the operative word..take a look at politics...that in itself says it all because politcians do not learn from our own past mistakes and wars.

Though the two phrases have merit in and of themselves. Stupidity is not an inability to learn, it is an inability or unwillingness to act on what one has learned. Ignorance is being unaware of the facts of topic, or being intentionally misled, misinformed, or kept from the truth. Then again it should be realized that truth is also a concept that is subjective at best unless taken to the absolute. In the world view I believe ignorance is most prominent because the stupid people in power like it that way.

Both are true. (although, it would be writtien "the inability" not unability)

I think if we are talking about the world, it might be the inability factor that plays a big role.

When you think about the percentage of the population which has access to a higher education, it really is slight in comparison with that of the world which does as its ancestors have always done.

Even in the US, where so many of us think we are making our own choices, for the most part people aren't seeking to know more.... they are not unwilling, but rather content with where they are and what they know. It would require so much more effort to go outside of their comfort zone and accept new ideas.... the peer pressure is just too strong.

So is this ignorance or stupidity? They have the capacity. Often they have the means. But do they really have free choice?

Stupidity is the result of an unwillingness to think

Ignorance...not only the unwillingness to learn, but the unwillingness to open one's head and heart to alternate possibilities. Idiots, ostriches and those with cranial constipation are my least favorite types.
