I am 23 years old and I have had normal periods since I was in eigth grade. I just went off the birth control pill Ortho Tri Cyclen in August. My last period was October 31st. It was very light and lasted about 2 days. I have taken several pregnancy tests but they all come out negative. I have read stories about women who do not test positive the first few months, and some who never tested positive at all. What do you think is going on? I know I should go to the doctor but I want to know what your opinions and experiences are.

I personally would not worry, because your period will be jacked up for quite some time after quitting the pill. Wait a couple weeks, or until your mext period. If it still isn't right, it wouldn't hurt to consult a doctor for a blood test. Good luck!

The pill is a hormone that tricks your body into being pregnant for 3 weeks out of each month. Depending on which pill you take. There are some pills that only let you have a period once every 4 months or so. When you stop taking it all together it takes a while for your system to get back to "normal". Pre-birth control stage. For some woman it can happened really fast and for others it could take up to a year. So your periods can range from very very light to normal as normal was to you to very heavy. I would just give it some more time and see how your periods vary from month to month. If you have taken several tests and they have came out negative I don't see any reason to worry. On the other had I my self took Ortho Tri Cyclen and got pregnant while taking the pill. I was on it for 6 months so it was well in my system but the pill is not 100%. My GYN also got pregnant taking the same pill so she doesn't prescribe it for any one at all. So if you really want to ease your mind I would make an appointment with your gyn and have them run a blood test. Good Luck and Best Wishes

I have also had normal periods for years and years (I'm in my 30's now). I went off of Ortho Tri Cyclen in August and experienced abnormal periods. My period was late in September. And now since September, my periods have been lighter than they ever were (strange, considering the pill is supposed to make periods lighter and more regular). I have cramps that are a bit worse, but the period itself is shorter and only heavy for one single day, then very light for 2 days.

So, based on my experience, I don't think you are pregnant. I think you may be just be adjusting to the lack of synthetic hormones in your body. I would not be too concerned, because the stress of it can only make your periods even more irregular (as I'm sure you know). I worry monthly if I am pregnant even though we use protection (just doesn't seem quite as "certain" as using the pill in combo). But I love being off the pill... hopefully things will return to normal for you!

Why did you go off birth control if you didn't want to be pregnant?
Sounds weird! If the pregnancy test is negative than no. I have never known anyone to test negative and really be pregnant. There are false positives but false negatives, NO.
Go to doctor they can run some tests and give you a blood test for pregnancy. If that is negative than you are not pregnant.
Good Luck!

Anytime you go off a hormonal birth control method your period will be screwed up until your actual hormones kick back in. If you are testing negative, then stop worrying. If the problem persists, see your doctor. Or if you're that worried, see him/her now. This is not the place to be asking medical questions as most people here are not in the medical field and are only guessing.

It took 6 months for my periods to go back to normal after I quit taking the pill. After my periods went back to normal (well normal for me) it took us another 3 months to get pregnant.

If the test is saying negative, then it is most likely correct. Just go to your doctor to make sure.

Take another test in a week or have your Dr. do a blood test. Blood tests are almost NEVER wrong, so you won't go months without knowing. Also, if you are pregnant in a month or so there will be unmistakable signs (although if you really want to be pregnant, your body can manifest false signs).

It can take a while to get back to "normal" after going off the pill.

If you want to just be safe, you can see if your Dr. Clinic will do a blood test.

You just got off the pill. You're body is trying to figure out what's up and regulate itself. It can take many months to get back to regular after the pill.

I doubt you are pregnant.
