The newest research shows that alcohol is no longer needed on the umbilical cord. The studies have shown that there is no more of a risk for infection with or without the use of the alcohol and the subjects who did not use alcohol umbilical cord came off sooner. So you don't need to do anything but keep it dry.

In some customs, they bury the umbilical cord. I actually threw my daughter's away. I think it is kindof dirty to keep, and the kids I know that still have theirs from their parents just think its gross.
I think if you're sentimental about it, you should bury it under a special tree in your yard or something.

The umbilical cord is a part of your baby and since that part of your baby has fallen off it is really dead. You should bury it. That is what my grandmother has told me to do. Bury it in your backyard.

I threw it away. I don't want to keep it and I know if my mom had kept mine I would be kind-of grossed out.

You should throw it away. It's pretty germy and gross. Wait til they are a little older and save their teeth.
