A Meccano robot?
Just bought one for my 8-year-old son for Xmas from Ebay... £45. He has to build it (should keep him quiet for a few hours) and then it is interactive. Powered by batteries, it dnaces, walks etc. And, if he gets bored, he can take it apart and make a radio controlled car from the same pieces!

I just bought my nine year old nephew Scene It Harry Potter Edition. He loves it.

We are always playing games but he can never play with us because they're too hard. This is one we can all play and it's really fun.
