I am an art teacher, and just curious as to which artist the common person enjoys... I personally love Carravagio... His work is so intense and beautiful.

His work is like dreaming. He takes you places you could only go in your imagination or dreams. You are there, and yet you're not.

I have to say Da Vinci, when i was at school, some time ago.
I picked up a magazine on his work, absolutely love his sketchings on the Old warrior, Amongst others, these sketchings taught me about technique, as well as the patience.required to produce such a work.

Piet Mondrian - I love how he made art into it's simple elements. He was also my first real influence in art.

M.C. Escher - I love how he "bent" the 3rd dimension.

Michelangelo - I love how he could bring art to "life," especially the Sistine Chapel and the "Pieta." His obsession to detail was extraordinary.
