Although Xanax does help with anxiety it does have some bad effects. There are many herbal remedies to treat anxiety. Most important cut the caffeine it makes them worse. There are also
Valerian
Chammomile
Evening Primrose Oil
St John Wort-I don't think works well
Linden
Oats
Motherwort
Lavender
Vervain
Hops
Skullcap
Kava-Kava- I think it has been banned
Passionflower.
Ginseng
Licorice
B Vitamins along with C and E

There is a great book called the Herbal Drugstore by Linda B White MD and Stephen Foster and the staff of Herbs For Health. Which covers anxiety and many other medical concerns.

A dietry approach would benefit greatly. Cut out caffeine completely as it raises anxiety and tires adrenal glands. Eat foods that produce serotonin, bananas, oats, turkey so on. Then supplement with calms from the herbal shop

try the Rx stress brand of Arizona iced tee and take melatonin at night stop the caffine and heavy sugars

St Johns Wort, just watch what you take with it. I believe it is an MAIO inhibitor and you have to watch what you take with that stuff.
