Get a USB hub, 4 or 5 or more parts. Using Win98, probably a 4-port hub will be all the computer will handle. Plug the port into one of your USB ports, and plug the printer into the hub. The MP3 should plug into the other USB port, not the hub.
But first, do you know whether your PC has 1.0 USB or 2.0? You will have to match the hub to whatever your computer has.

Yes, for up to 127 devices!
Get a USB Hub! And, plug in the power, as you should provide some, for each device, instead of leeching off the computer's PSU.
It can over load the internal computer PSU, all those USB device, specially cams, scanners, mp3 players!
And, get http://pclinuxos.com that runs in the CDrom drive! Wow, hacker power, plus 1900 games, programs, apps.!

You can either unplug one of them and then plug in the mp3 player (it will work unplugging and plugging them back in), or you could buy a cheap USB hub. A usb hub would plug into your computer, and then give you up to 8 new usb ports to plug into.

You can buy a "HUB" that would connect to one of your USB ports and have 4-6 different USB connections. From there, you can plug anything USB into it.
Check it out at Staples.
