Yes, we are very afraid of our wives for following reasons:
1. They are Unpredictable - you don't quite realize when they are pleased at you, and when on fire. You are forced to weigh everything you speak. A guy came to Yahoo Answers with a question that his wife was going to kill him because he suggested a "threesome" with the "neighbor" in jest, and from the way he sounded, he was trying to salvage his life.
2. Law is on your side: At least in the West, Law helps women more than men in cases of domestic violence. Although we have come to an era of gender equality, you always hear cases of wife abuse and marital rape, NEVER battered husbands.
It is perfectly LOGICAL to believe a 5-2" wife can beat a 6 foot man to pulp. But, society precdents force men to behave well with their wives.
Of course, in Islamic countries it would have been quite the opposite the other way around literally.
3. Divorces and alimony are expensive: More so, when there are kids and you have to fight for custody.
4. Men are basically pleasure-hunters. After marriage, you are forced to believe...that hot chick in the mall...no, I am not supposed to even Masturbate on her lest if my wife catches me in the act...you know, most men are insecure about getting caught in the act, but they NEVER do it really because they love their wives, something that they never realize.
5. We always LIE to you on every matter. In order to save 1 lie, we lie again and again and we are always scared the day you catch us in the process.

i don't have a wife but i can tel you i am afraid of having one!
