well first of all i cant answer ur question well cuz u didnt say what ull be using ur llaptop in the first place for....if its something like desighning or video editing photo editing i would reccomend a 17'' screen with a good powerful graphic card to match and plenty of ram sumwot around 1gb or 2 gb if u like dell try considering the dell inspiron e1705 or the xps m1710 here the e1705 is cheaper but has quality issues as comppared to the xps which is more stronger and has better components and better looking too
if u like hp check out the dv9000t series whic sports an intel processor and is gorgeous looking and also has a built in webcam and mic but the only draw back in the graphic card as only geforce7600 is offered which is in the mid range category
whereas dell offers te 7900gs and 7900gtx and so on the higher end of spectrum they have uge potentiol to play the latest games at the highest settings
if u travel but not much i recommend a 15'' screen as tats a sweet spot in te market today in this category there are alot of options such as te dell e1505,hp dv6000t,asus line of laptops too many to mention these are usually found with midlevel graphic cards with the highest being found being 7600 or x1600these are consumer main stream line or the mid level laptops available thers also other brands like ibm, sager, alienware voodoo these are either for gaming fanatics or strictly for business
and go ito the high 2000s theres also the ultra portable category tese are 12-14'' screens and are portable and dont usually sport a top of the line graphic card examples such as dell e1405,xps m1210,hp dv2000t etc.....dell is known usually for their good price isto component ratio u get more than wat u paid for mostly but dont expect the build quality to be top of the line but its still ignorable once u c the components being offered

Why would anyone buy a Dell these days...Their reputation for support is the worst in the industry. Dell is still delinquent if filing their regulatory documents(something is rotten in Round Rock!!). Others are going to more stable companies for their hardware. Dell's supply chain is always changing so you never know where system componets are from.
So... WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!!!
I say go with the winners get an HP or Apple.

In the past I would recommend Dell but as of lately, their laptops tend to have numerous hardware issues... I can confirm this since I support over 7,000 Dell laptops and we are constantly doing RMA.....

I was impressed by the new HP DV9010US laptop.... It has a 17inch monitor, 2 GB RAM, AMD X2 3.8 GHZ processor and I believe a 100 GB hard drive.... For support, I would not by this from Best Buy, CompUSA, or Circuit City but from HP which will cost you an additional $180 for 3 year... IMHO this system rocks and I used to hate HP laptops....

I work for an insurance company and we price computers all the time. Dell is definitely the front runner.
