Live in TX and I bought dead ones at the end of the year from Wal-Mart. Poor things never got watered and not protected from the high winds. This spring came and I was so sure that the deader looking things were gonners so I still continued to ignore them thinking that it was going to be a walk around the house to the garbage pails. Either late May or mid June, I popped them out of their 1 gallon containers, to cut into the canes to see how dead was dead. Well upon close inspection I wasn't sure on all six of them. I was still staring at them when my 16 year old came home and asked if I wanted him to plant them.....and this seemed to ease my quilt, in a small way to think that just maybe they weren't done being dead yet.

All six were planted and five grew this year to over 5 feet tall with a profusion of blooms at a time. The one poor guy didn't make it! I have taken pictures of them to send to other rose lovers who have had problems with their roses to give tips.

I wish you well but can't answer as to your success as the State, watering, and growing season is different from state to state and city to city......but mine survived and so has many others around the USA that I've sent tips too.

Good luck and.......

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS.

They can live quite happily in pots for as long as you like...(sounds like it is making you climb up a wall tho, them not being in the ground)...my daughter has them in pots in a memorial garden growing over an arched bench seat..they are sooo beautiful, still blooming and growing strong and healthy...they also are in the full sun not getting a great deal of water as we are in a drought here, but sufficient enough to keep them blooming..The pots are of medium size, ceramic and the soil line is covered in 2cms thick mulch to retain the water they get...good luck with them either way you keep them....

Either start giving them some rose food by putting it in a bucket (dissolved of course) and soaking the bushes, there's another method. It's called "planting" you'd be surprised on how well plants do when actually planted, try it. Since he's to lazy, show him what a woman can do?

Keep watering keep them from freezing and they should be okay in the pots till spring... that's really the best time for transplanting them anyway.
