because you're looking at a mirror image. The right appears on the left and left on the right. There isn't a "reversal" of the image. You're seeing the image as if you were looking at yourself. You're not upside-down are you?

Cool question! I thought I found a good answer to this question when I started reading this website: http://www.weburbia.com/physics/mirrors.html It is an interesting read, but still seems to leave the answer up in the air.

Because your eyes are aligned horizontaly and not vertically.
