I think the spelling of that is Kahil Gibran, or close.
He wrote some books, not to prolific a writer. One of them was called "The Prophet", another, Sidhartha, about Buddha.
Ok, I think the way you could explain that quote is to say, love is a feeling. And it's only when you follow up that love with doing something for someone, that you can see the love.
Like that song, Then you wouldn't have to say, that you love me. Cause' I'd already know.
My Mom used to say that to me all the time. That it's not how many times ya say it, it's what you do that shows it.
