On the map scale one inch equals fourteen miles. You have traveled a distance of four and one sixthteenth inches.I came up with 56.875 minutes but this doesn't seem correct.

You are correct.

I'm not sure what information you were given in the original question but I'm assuming it was just the scale and the speed.

So, as you correctly worked out, the distance is 56.875 miles.

Now if you travel 1 mile in 1 minute;

you travel 20 miles in 20 minutes
and 58 miles in 58 minutes

so you travel 58.875 miles in 58.875 minutes which is 58 minutes, 52.5 seconds

That sounds right to me. If one mile a minute is 60mph, then when you have traveled 56.875 miles, you have traveled 56 minutes and 7/8 of another minute.

If your are traveling at a rate of a mile per minute and the distance covered is 56.875 miles, it took 56.875 minutes

d = rt

d/r = t

56.875 / 1 = 56.875
