Aww! Guten tag! or something like that. Would have saved a bunch of lives or cost untold more! The U.S. would have in all probability needed more that two nuclear weapon strikes to end the conflict successfully.

This is really two questions. What if Britian had joined an alliance with Hitler, which he wanted, before hostlities broke out and what if Britian had been defeated and took Hitlers peace offer of allowing Britian to keep its Empire after the defeat of the Western Allies in 1940. The first would never have happened. After the defeat in 1940 Hitler made peace overtures to the British Government saying the keep your Empire let us have free reign in Europe. Lord Melbourne felt we should take this offer as he felt he wanted to save as much of Britian as possible. Churchill rejected it. The Cabinet was split, and if Melbourne had prevailed, Churchill would have resigned. The Germans would then look to 'elect' a sutiably respected (puppet) governement, perhaps Llyod-George and Britian would have become a 'slave state' to quote Churchill. Britians role would have become subordinate to Germany, and the Empire would have undoubtley split from Britian. Countries such as India would have declared independance and Canada and Australlia would have not recgonised the Governemnt in London. Edward VIII (a nazi sympathiser) would have been replaced on the throne and freedoms would have been eroded.
It is unlikley that the US would have come to the rescue as there would be nowhere for the US to land and the Rossevelt administration would have had to negoitate with Hitler.
Also with Britain defeated he could take the forces he had spread around Southern Europe and Africa to a concentrated attack on the Soviet Union and more than likley pushed the Soviet Union behind the Urals.
So no Cold war but an age of darkness would have spread accross the world to quote Churchill again.

great q.
Germany had no particular interest in britain or france as enemies.
The soviet union was its ultimate goal.

If britain would have joined germany then the nazis would not have invaded france.
The destruction of bolshevism and liberation of the enslaved and oppressed ppl of the soviet states would have been much more of a noble cause.
I think britain was mistaken in some ways, although fulfilled its duty to honour the alliance with poland.
Unfortunately ,the rise of expansionist germany and its supreme military might, would always have dominated central europe.A threat within its own right.
Still,60 years of the cold war and soviet domination of eastern europe could be seen as worse. The communists of the soviet union were the ultimate winners of the war.
Anti nazi propaganda during and after the war is much to blame for the lack of reasoned thought and education concerning the true situation of 1939.

Good Question,

Germany would have almost certainly succeded in gaining its Lebensraum in the east, which would have been a scary prospect, although Britain & France were not the initial targets, once Germany had Russia under its command it surely wouldnt have been long before Hitler's ego grew and he would have decided he wanted the whole mass of land that is Europe, Africa and Asia? I think War with us was unavoidable really

I'm guessing we wouldn't have issues with Israel in the Middle East, amongst other things. Or we would, and the Soviet Union and the US would still be competing superpowers, with much tighter, autocratic control over European nations.

The possibilities are endless. Certainly, Churchill would be viewed differently.

You would not be here I would not be here. All males would be six foot tall with blond hair and speak German. The streets of the United Kingdom would look very different.

Basically it's unthinkable just to imagine what could have happened.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I don't know a huge amount about the war.
Isn't it possible that Russia could have defeated the Germans.
If that were the case and we were their allies then we would have been totally screwed.
