That is an impossible question to answer, as there is no such thing as 'the best'
In fusion Jazz, there is Billy Cobham. Almost no one can touch him. But if he was playing straight jazz, Gene Krupa, or Buddy Rich would best him easily. But if any of them tried to drum for a prog rock band, Neil Peart would wipe the floor with them (but he couldn't hold a candle to Billy Cobham if playing Fusion.) Neil Peart would never be as good playing metal as Mr Lee, but Tommy wouldn't survive ten minutes playing Jazz. You need to be more specific in your question.
