being in the presence of live actors is not about (their) ego; it's about experiencing a show in another (and lets not forget, the original) way. have you been? how 'bout go and decide for yourself? i would have to say also that the experiences of film and literature are totally different as well. so it only makes sense that the experience of theater would also be different.

Well, it def depends on the person. I know people that do theater and dont have an ego at all. Other people who are really good, not saying the others are not these people are the ones who get into the conservatories and stuff, can get a HUGE ego. Just, dont let it go to your head and you'll be fine. I think the risk is the same with all three area's of study

Are you talking about acting in theater, or are you talking about going to theater vs. seeing a movie or reading a book?

If it's the latter, the coolest part about going to a play (IMHO)is that having someone performing something live makes it feel more alive than just reading words on a page or passively staring at a screen.

If you're talking about the former, acting for film or video is OK, but acting on stage is more fun *because* of (see previous statement about experience seeming more alive).

That's just my opinion.
