Not too old at all (no one is too old!). Since you have had the interest for a while, it might follow that you also have some natural talent for it & may pick it up easily. Before you find a suitable class, you can try other inexpensive ways to get started.
There is a video that covers many basic steps ...& more in the routines. It is "I Hate to Exercise, I Love to Tap" taught by actress and dancer Bonnie Franklin in 1984 who began teaching tap as a pre-teen. It's available online to rent from Netflix & probably elsewhere. It gave me a good start & it may work for you!
Also, You may be able to borrow a book "Inside Tap: technique and improvisation for today's tap dancer" by Anita Feldman from your local Libray system. It is a good reference on the various steps used and how they can be put together. Good Luck and Have Fun ! ! !

Of course you're not too old! I am a tap dancer and I've taught students in your situation and I've taken class with beginners. It can be a little frustrating at first but I think the right teacher is key. I'm not sure where you live but here in NYC it is generally $15/per class for open classes and I believe $40 - $50 a month for a studio class. It could be very different where you live but look in to it. Good luck and just have some fun. Dance is about enjoyment and passion, keep that in mind.

you are absolutely not to old to start tap dancing. I only started about 4 years ago and I am now 31! There should be an adult class somewhere in your area and you will probably discover that you are the youngest in the class.
You are still young enough to become quite good at it too, even to a professional level. If you start now, in 10 years time you will only be 27 and a mighty good tap dancer!
as far as cost goes, it varies. I am in Australia and classes are usually around the $8-$12 range.
I hope you find a class and tap on to the top!
all the best to you!

17 is not too old! You're never too old to learn something new, but it has been proven that your first 20 years are the best years to learn things because your brain can absorb the info more readily than if you were, say 35 or so.
Plus, being younger means you are likely to be more physically fit to do tap dancing. I wouldn't put it off! Prices, I dont know, but I would say they vary depending on the instructor and his or her experience level.

No, you are not too old for tap dancing at all. It amuses me actually how at 17 people think they are too old for so many things, and how they become not too old anymore when they turn 25. If you start now you can get quite good at it, go for it.

Absolutely not. The dance school my children when to had an adult tap class that lots of the mum's went to. They were in their 40's and above, and they did public performances too.
Go for it!
