I highly doubt it. I do believe that DVD players in the store are ultra low priced now and Sony wouldn't settle for junk in the PSP.They made it to play DVD's.There are no contact points.

Also, PS2 games come on DVD-ROM discs, so playing a DVD movie is no different than playing a PS2 game in terms of wear and tear.

Look, any machine with moving parts (including the human body) has a limited lifespan.
That being said, using a PS2 for games and for movies probably causes the same amount of wear and tear.

possibly but it will still last a lot of years. Sony is pretty good.
