Unless you've had freedom and then lost it, it is difficult to understand why it is special. If you live where you are allowed to make choices like which church to attend, or what school you go to, or what clothes you can where, or what opinion you can have; then you are experiencing freedom. If however you live where the Government or some other people decide what you think, believe and do then you are not free.

Freedom is great but is rapidly disappearing in the U.S. due to excess growth of government, whether federal or local. And this is what most seem to want, a European life where the government dictates where you can go to school and the type of job you can hold. They have national heathcare. But is it worth it? I am just not sure as I want everyone to have healthcare and their needs met but that means high unemployment and stagnant economies as in Europe. I tend to think many more of the poor are provided for in a free economy like the U.S. once had where entrepreneurship is allowed freely. Then many good jobs can be created and companies the resources to train the unskilled. The creates true free success for those in need, where they can be coached to learn and succeed by serving others. Such a tragedy those days are largely gone in the U.S. as freedom in business is being shut down due to excess taxes and regulations and entitlements. Freebies (even free healthcare) will never match the personal wealth created by hard work and learning in a free environment where innovation is allowed freely. This kind of success makes freedom very special for the unskilled and the poor.

Your question is difficult to answer as you haven't specified the type of freedom. Freedom is about having no boundaries, which no-one on this planet has. Healthcare for everyone doesn't actually have anything to do with freedom. Try as I might I can't answer your question.

Because freedom gives you the chance to be the person who you really are.
